Our more regular readers and clients will recall that we undertook a significant rebrand towards the end of last year. HotPMO had started out as a PMO Blog. At the time, there weren’t many sites focused on the Project Management Office, and of those that existed, many were formal and focused on governance. HotPMO was different and encouraged people to think differently about the PMO. We advocated viewing the PMO as a catalyst and called on PMO managers to conduct PMO process purges to remain nimble and business-focused.

The brand was light-hearted and borrowed heavily from pop art and comics. It served us well. But as HotPMO evolved into a PMO consultancy, it became clear that we needed a stronger brand identity that reflected who we were and worked in a variety of mediums.

We spoke to several agencies until we settled on working with Toni Marino and his team, who really understood our vision, and what we were aiming to achieve. Being Agilists through and through, we went through an iterative approach with frequent feedback loops.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at a few of the concepts that didn’t quite make the cut!

It wasn’t an easy process, and we spent a long time talking with friends and other PMO people and getting their feedback on whether our concepts worked. Feedback from our clients was critical – we value their input, and our clients are an integral part of our journey.

We’re proud of our HotPMO Brand

But we are really proud of where we ended up. The HotPMO logo is clean and simple – just as PMO processes should be. Yet, the brand is also playful and occasionally rebellious with burned edges and playful PMO Bots. These elements emphasize the need to encourage new growth, fresh thinking, and smarter ways of working – just as we advocated in our first blog posts back in 2016. We continued to work with Toni Marino, and they went on to redesign the whole site to align with our new identity and evolve it into what you see today.
