What is the Serious Games Night all about?

The PMOFlashmob are meeting in Manchester on the 17th May to explore Serious Games and Play. When people think of using games in a business setting, they tend to think of Gamification. Gamification takes the typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) and applies these to other areas of activity. In the PMO context, this could be used to add a competitive element to compliance or learning. But the serious games night is a bit different. This session looks at an alternative way of using games and play within organisations. The aim of the Serious Games Night is to use games to explore mindsets and behaviors, and to look at how tools such as LEGO® can be used to facilitate innovative and exploratory workshops.

The evening will be facilitated by Parag Gogate from Change Innovation Lab.

This is a repeat of the Serious Games night that PMO Flashmob ran recently in London. I was in attendance at that one and found the evening informative and thought-provoking. I can highly recommend it to anyone involved in PMO, based in the Birmingham area in the UK.

You can learn more about a person in an hour of play than you can from a lifetime of conversation

What is Collaboration in Action?

Collaboration in Action is a fast-paced game that helps groups and individuals explore mindsets and behaviors necessary for Agile to work effectively. This game introduces a new framework and vocabulary which results in creating a stronger and faster ways of working together supporting Agile projects and programs.

What is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is an innovative, experimental process designed to enhance innovation and business performance. It is based on research which shows that this kind of hands-on, minds-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities.

I have seen the methodology in use before and have been impressed with the levels of collaboration and communication that were achieved.
